What’s With the Name?
Welcome! Thank you for finding me amidst the billions of other bloggers on the internet. You may be wondering “what’s with the name?” It’s IM speak. You know, the shorthand used when instant messaging. You’re probably familiar with phrases such as: LOL, ttyl, otp, wdyt?…
Get it yet? Yes, I made this one up. Look at it again. YUDoDat?
Y=Why
U=You (short for “Do You”)
Do= Do
Dat= That
Why Do You Do That?
Now say it fast and with some urban attitude: “YUDoDat?”
Try it again, this time crinkle your face and get a little nasty. It might help if you imagine something that gets you blistering - your child just spilled milk all over the new car, your husband just blew the budget on a new porsche while you drive a beat up clunker, your wife brought home a new mini-van and expects you to drive the kids to soccer practice. Do you have an image in mind? Good, now say: “YUDoDat?”
Try it again with your hands on your hips moving your head to and fro. “YUDoDat?” Add a long drawn out ‘Girl’ at the beginning: “Girrrrrl YUDoDat?”
It’s fun isn’t it? Good, keep reading. Umm, if you’re not laughing, this site probably isn’t for you…l8r g8r!
So what’s that have to do with a Health and Fitness website?
Simple! I’m sick of calorie counters and fad diets. I don’t think they work. We all try them, fail and then blame ourselves. Gee how horrible we are - we couldn’t stick with the impossible long enough to see any progress. Ba humbug! I’ve decided it’s the diet’s fault. They’re fundamentally flawed. They expect too much too soon. I have too many other things going on in my life to give a diet the attention it demands of me.
Instead of calorie counting, fad dieting and crash exercise routines, I explore daily habits. It’s our habits that rule our behavior. There are triggers which set us off on eating expeditions and food addictions that keep us trapped in the same eating dysfunction that causes the weight to pile on.
We’re going to explore the reasons WHY we do what we do. You might find it enlightening. You might find it frightening. You might be wishing for a magic pill that will simply make your cholesterol go down and your weight to drop. Well, babycakes, those pills don’t exist, and the only thing that is going to shed those pounds is in your head. It’s all in your head - your hopes and good intentions along with the self-sabotaging binging, emotional triggers, and food addictions. It’s up to you to master your own mind.
Sounds hard? Not as hard as sticking to an impossible diet and exercise regime. Not as hard as leaving your health to rot and suffering from sudden stroke or heart attack. It’s not as hard as huffing and puffing your way up a flight of stairs.
It can be easy when approached on a daily basis. This site explores strategies for replacing the bad habits with good habits. Simple stuff that you can do each day that overtime, add up to a new you. It doesn’t happen in a day. But just think, if you can change one habit, just one, you will have improved your health and fitness level.
You’ll notice at the end of this message there’s a “Comments” link. It allows you to leave a comment or see what others have to say. Go ahead and press it. Please, say what’s on your mind, explore why you do the things you do. And we’ll talk right back at you so you’re not left alone. Together we’ll explore all the reasons for YUDoDat?
